On Site Generation go Back to School

On Site Generation learn to drive 4x4 safely

On Site Generation has gone back to school to learn to drive 4x4 safely. We spent one day at the Landrover Experience in Dunkeld on a beautiful winter’s day driving up and down steep hills, through gulleys and over humps. The day was about understanding the mechanics of a 4x4 and how to handle the vehicle safely when off road. We’ve learnt some good skills which we will now put into practice. We would like to thank Midlothian Council for the financial support we received for this course.

Renewable energy interest free loans for householders.

Loans of between £500 and £10,000 are available for householders. The loans are interest free so you only pay back what you borrow. Applicants can pay back the loan in monthly instalments over a maximum of eight years.

Loans can be combined with grants such as the Energy Saving Scotland home renewables grants and funding from fuel suppliers under the Carbon Emission Reduction Target.

You can borrow money to:

The energy efficiency or renewable measure funded by the loan must be recommended in one of the following documents:

You can find out more about all these documents and how to get them by calling your local Energy Saving Scotland advice centre on 0800 512 012.

Training workshops at SELECT

On Site Generation is working with SELECT (Scotland's Electrical Trade Association) to provide micro renewable technology training for its members. One day training workshops are planned for 6th, 12th and 22nd of October at Select's head office in the Bush Estate. The workshop is designed for electricians and other trade professions, who wish to gain an overview of the different renewable technologies and their application in domestic buildings in Scotland. The aim of the course is to provide attendees with an understanding of different renewable technologies and where they can be successfully installed. Each technology will focus on how it works, system types and relative merits, site suitability, installation costs and potential savings. The course also looks at planning and building control requirements, grants, installers and the Microgeneration Certification Scheme. For more information see: www.select.org.uk.

On Site Generation wins Community Halls Contract

Carnegie Hall

On Site Generation has won a contract to carry out energy audits and renewables options appraisals for 16 community halls across East Sutherland. The project is funded by Voluntary Groups East Sutherland through a Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) grant from Community Energy Scotland and aims to provide the village hall committees with recommendations to reduce energy consumption within their buildings.

Jason Leon of OSG said "We are very excited about this project. Community halls play a vital role and are a great showcase for renewables. Our appraisals will help the halls keep their rising energy bills as low as possible, and identify the most suitable renewable energy options available to provide a sustainable future for the buildings, hopefully enthusing and inspiring the whole community"

On Site Generation sets a new standard

On Site Generation is an approved installer

On Site Generation is delighted to announce that we have been successful in gaining Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accreditation for solar water and heat pump installations.

We are the first company in the UK to be accredited to the MCS standard by new certification body NICEIC. Ian Fleming of the NICEIC group spent two days with OSG assessing our quality procedures and our installations.

Richard Witney of OSG said "We are thrilled to have achieved MCS a major step forward for On Site Generation. MCS certification enables our clients to access grant funding for installations, small business loans and future feed in tariffs and is vital for the growth of the business."

On Site Generation attends the first Mull Renewables Fair

On Site Generation attends the first Mull Renewables Fair

Richard from On Site Generation attended the first Mull Renewables Fair in Craignure on Tuesday 24th February. It was a great opportunity to meet 200 enthusiastic people all interested in making a difference to their energy use which is very dependent on electricity and oil. The fair was a success for the Mull and Iona Community Trust and Mull Renewables Group which has been successful with its application for grant funding from the Climate Challenge Fund to raise awareness of energy efficiency and renewable energy across the Island.

Permitted development 11/2/09

The Scottish Government's new permitted development rights order

On Site Generation welcomes the Scottish Government's new permitted development rights order. Solar water heating panels, solar photovoltaics panels, ground source heat pump and biomass boiler flues are now all permitted development. The Scottish Government passed The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (Domestic Microgeneration) (Scotland) Amendment Order 2009. This means planning permission is no longer required from 12th March 2009. Certain requirements exist with regard to height off plane of roof, flat roofs, World Heritage Sites and conservation areas etc. Please have a look at the pdf document below. Air source heat pumps or micro/small wind turbines have not been included as the Government has concerns about potential noise. The Government has committed to carrying a noise study for these technologies which will conclude by the end of this year.
